Kicking off the 2012 season, St. John's will face Minnesota State University – Mankato for a preseason scrimmage on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 in Vadnais Heights, Minn. at 10:45 p.m. at the Vadnais Heights Dome.
This is the only game of the preseason for the Johnnies who will be looking to show off their hard work over the off-season.
St. John's ended its 2011 season with a 15-8 loss to Dayton in the quarterfinals of the MCLA national championships in Denver, Colo.
This year, the Johnnies have a No. 5-ranking in the preseason polls behind Davenport University, the University of St. Thomas, University of Dayton and Grand Valley State University.
While the game will be the start of St. John's season, Mankato has already seen plenty of action. The Mavericks have scrimmaged St. Olaf resulting in a 21-5 victory.
However, Mankato has lost its first three regular season games against Marquette, Purdue and Wisconsin-Madison. Two of those games ended in a one-goal deficit.
Though the game may not count towards either team's official record, it's safe to say the scrimmage will be treated like a regular season game by both teams. The Johnnies look to start their season off on the right foot with a win over Mankato while the Mavericks look to end their recent three game losing streak.
St. John's encourages its fans as well as fans of lacrosse to attend a scrimmage that is sure to display a high level of MCLA lacrosse competition.
