Johnnies to participate in Sailfish Shootout Tournament in West Palm Beach

St. John’s will open the 2012 season with three games in the Sailfish Shootout tournament in West Palm Beach, Fla. starting on Sunday March 4.

The Johnnies will face No. 14-ranked Elon University on Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m., Palm Beach Atlantic University on Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. and No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State University on Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. All times are Eastern Standard Time.

Elon University has won its first three games with victories over Citadel, East Carolina and UNC-Charlotte.  The Sailfish from Palm Beach Atlantic University lost their first regular season game to the University of Florida but have won four scrimmages in a couple high-scoring matches.  Grand Valley State University has won two preseason scrimmages against Carthage and Trine.

This year's Sailfish Shootout has seen action from Palm Beach Atlantic University and the No. 18-ranked U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the team's traditional tournament-opening matchup that ended in a close 15-14 victory for the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday, March 2.

On Saturday, March 3 competition continued with a 9-6 victory for Elon over the U.S. Coast Guard as well as a 27-1 victory for Grand Valley State over Emory University.

The Johnnies kickoff the week with the Sunday, March 4, game against Elon at 4 p.m. (EST).

Check-in daily for updates on the scores and game results of the Sailfish Shootout in Palm Beach as play continues with two games on Tuesday and the final game -- a top five matchup between No. 5-ranked St. John’s and Grand Valley State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.
