Johnnies 'attack' West Coast road trip, capture three big wins in Washington

The Johnnies expanded their record to 6-0 with three victories in Seattle, Wash.

The road trip started Friday, March 11, as St. John’s took down a skilled Western Washington University team, 7-6.

Leading the way were attackmen Alex Fulton (junior, Mahtomedi, Minn.) with two goals and one assist and Matt Draxler (senior, Plymouth, Minn.) with two goals.

The low scoring game showed the strength of the St. John’s defense in big game situations.

On Saturday, March 12th, 2011 the Johnnies played Western Oregon, who were ranked No. 4 in the MCLA DII.

Thanks to a productive second quarter, the Johnnies led the Wolves 6-3 at halftime.

St. John’s continued their solid play in the second half with help from freshman attackman Jake Helmer (Mahtomedi, Minn.) who had five goals and two assists in the 14-7 victory for the Johnnies.

The Johnnies finished their Seattle trip on Sunday, March 13, with a game against Central Washington University.

After a successful first half, the Johnnies led 12-4.  The lead continued to grow in the second half as St. John’s received scoring from nine different players in the 21-5 win over the Wildcats.

With the three tough, out-of-conference victories the Johnnies own a 6-0 record and are currently ranked No. 5 nationally in the MCLA DII.

Up next, the Johnnies will host two home games at St. John’s University against Augsburg on Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. and Bethel University on Sunday, April 3, at 11 a.m. Both games will be held at Clemens Stadium.
