St. John’s had a challenging and frustrating weekend with two losses on Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16.
The annual rivalry game kicked off the weekend as the Johnnies battled the University of St. Thomas in the midst of a snowy Friday night at O’Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul.
St. Thomas led 4-2 at halftime and then came out firing in the second half as the Tommies would finish with a 12-3 victory over the Johnnies.
The following evening, St. John’s traveled up to Fargo, N.D. and faced a tough North Dakota State University team.
After four periods of tough play, the Johnnies found themselves in overtime with the Bison. NDSU found the game-winner after getting a good look at the net and walked away with a 7-6 victory.
The two back-to-back losses for St. John’s dropped the team down to the No. 6 ranking nationally in the MCLA DII.
Up next, for the Johnnies are the UMLL DII playoffs.
St. John’s received the third seed and will play the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. at McMurray Fields in St. Paul. The Johnnies beat Eau Claire earlier in the season by a score of 14-3.
