Johnnies advance to quarterfinals after first round victory over Missouri Baptist

St. John’s cruised to a 12-5 victory over Missouri Baptist University during first-round action of the 2011 MCLA National Championship Tournament on May 17.

The Johnnies’ starting attackman -- senior Matt Draxler (Plymouth, Minn.), junior Alex Fulton (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and freshman Jake Helmer (Mahtomedi, Minn.) -- notched four points each.

Helmer scored three goals and added one assist; Draxler had two goals and two assists; and Fulton had one goal and three assists.

Freshman midfielder Miles Armitage (Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored three goals, all of them coming in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, the Johnnies advance to the quarterfinals round where they will face the No. 6 seed University of Dayton.

The quarterfinal matchup will be at 10 a.m. MST / 11 a.m. CST on Wednesday, May 18.
